The Canadian Sheep Federation is a producer-funded organization. Its members are comprised of provincial organizations that elect representatives to its Board of Directors. The number of Directors a province can send is based on the percentage of the National Ewe Flock using January figures from Statistics Canada. The provincial representation is based on a minimum of one director per province which is increased by one director for each ten percent or portion above ten percent of the total ewe population.

Full membership, including voting privileges in the Canadian Sheep Federation, is reserved for provinces that pay their share of the annual budget. Provinces that do not have the resources to pay their portion of the budget can become associate members by contributing a smaller fee determined by the Board of Directors. The Canadian Sheep Breeders’ Association and the Canadian Co-operative Wool Growers Limited are associate members.

The Board of Directors is currently made up of representatives from nine provincial organizations and two associate member organizations.
